The reimagination of 322 Summit began with a deep respect for its history. The original home had sheltered generations of one family, its walls absorbing decades of laughter, ritual, and everyday life. Yet the structure had grown tired—its layout closed off, its materials worn, and its systems in need of modernization. Still, the bones of the house held immense potential: a generous footprint, a dramatic perch with sweeping mountain views, and a site that invited light from every direction.

Our goal was to honor the past while creating a home that felt entirely renewed. Early in the process, we met a young couple searching for a place to grow their own family. Their sensibilities aligned perfectly with our vision—timeless rather than trendy, warm rather than rustic, modern but deeply comfortable. With them, the project shifted from renovation to reimagination.

We stripped the structure down to its essentials, opening the floor plan to allow the main living spaces to flow into one another. Walls that once separated the kitchen, dining room, and living area were removed, creating a unified space anchored by natural light and uninterrupted views. Large new windows and sliding doors were strategically placed to frame the mountains and blur the lines between indoors and outdoors.

Materiality became central to the design. The exterior was transformed into a striking black cabin-style farmhouse, clad in durable metal siding chosen for its clean lines, longevity, and ability to recede into the landscape. The dark exterior contrasted beautifully with the home’s bright and airy interior, where white oak floors introduced natural warmth and subtle texture. The minimalist layout allowed the materials to speak for themselves—every surface intentional, every detail simplified.

Structural updates brought the home into the present era: improved insulation, modern mechanical systems, and energy-efficient windows. At the same time, we wove in thoughtful features meant for real family living—a functional open kitchen, flexible-use rooms, outdoor space designed for gathering, and a photography studio in the basement for our incredibly talented client.

The completed home feels both rooted and refreshed. It stands as a modern interpretation of the original dwelling—honoring the legacy of the woman who once raised her family there while embracing the needs of the new family who will build their future within its walls. The remodel is more than an architectural transformation; it is a renewal of purpose, a home ready for new memories and new life.
